| In the Middle Ages the city of Siena was partitioned into 17 neighborhoods or "Contrade." Each "Contrade" was represented by an animal and a colorful banner. These neighborhoods developed a tradition of fierce rivalry that continues today as the "Palio", a competitive bareback horse race that takes place bi-annually in the city's main piazza.
Dinnerware, Serving Pieces and Decorative Items are available in approved patterns from each of the "Contrade." These patterns are closely regulated and are available only as approved by the "Palio" Board. |
